Administrative Service Internship Programme 2018

 

 

The Administrative Officers (AOs) are professional administrators in the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.  They are involved in formulation of government policies, coordination and monitoring of the implementation of programmes, and management of the use of public resources.  They enjoy variety in their career through regular rotation to different bureaux and departments, and contribute to different areas of work in the Government.

 

The primary objective of the Administrative Service Internship Programme (“the Programme”) is to give Hong Kong students who wish to pursue an AO career an opportunity to get hands-on experience of working with serving AOs, so as to facilitate their future career planning.

 

Duties

Students participating in the Programme will be exposed to duties similar in nature to those of AOs in assigned posts in government bureaux or departments. Students will also have the opportunity to visit various government offices and / or relevant public organisations.

 

Winter Internship Programme 2018

 

Hong Kong students studying at any tertiary institution in Australia, New Zealand or any other region in the Southern Hemisphere who fulfill the following selection criteria are welcome to apply for the Programme .

 

Selection Criteria

Participants in the Programme are required to fulfill the following requirements:

 

(a) being a permanent resident of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region;
(b) undergoing full-time studies at a tertiary institution in Australia, New Zealand or any other region in the Southern Hemisphere in the 2018 and 2019 academic years, who is in possession of or with a view to obtaining by winter 2019 (i.e. by December) a bachelor’s degree or higher qualifications (excluding students of local tertiary institutions who are currently participating in exchange programmes at a tertiary institution in Australia, New Zealand or any other region in the Southern Hemisphere);
(c) being committed to serve the community and with an interest in pursuing a career in the Administrative Service after graduation;
(d) possessing leadership qualities and being able to work in a team;
(e) being active in community / school activities;
(f) with outstanding academic achievements; and
(g) having a good command of both Chinese and English.
   

 

Terms of employment

The employment period will last for about two months from 26 November 2018 to 25 January 2019 (depending on office exigencies and individual participants’ availability, the actual employment period of individual cases may vary).  The level of remuneration for participants will be $9,800 per month (including contribution to Mandatory Provident Fund).  Participants are normally required to work 44 hours per week.  The exact hours of work will depend on the actual operational needs.  Overtime work, where necessary, will be compensated by time-off in lieu.

How to apply

For those who wish to participate in the Winter Internship Programme, they are required to submit by mail the following information by 28 September 2018 (postmark date will be taken) to the Administrative Service Division of Civil Service Bureau at Room 918, 9/F., West Wing, Central Government Offices, 2 Tim Mei Avenue, Tamar, Hong Kong (late applications and applications submitted by fax or e-mail will not be accepted) :

 

(a) a completed application form together with two essays (one in Chinese and one in English) of no more than 300 words each on why they apply for this Programme and what they want to achieve from it; and
(b) two reference letters from the staff of the tertiary institution they are currently enrolled in.

All successful applicants will be offered identical terms of employment. No allowance will be given to appointees currently residing outside Hong Kong to cover their travelling expenses to and from Hong Kong or their subsistence during their stay in Hong Kong.
 

Notification and Enquiries

Summer Internship Programme 2018

Selection Criteria

Participants in the Programme are required to fulfill the following requirements:

 

(a) being a permanent resident of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region;
(b) undergoing full-time studies at a local or overseas / Mainland tertiary institution in the 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years, who is in possession of or with a view to obtaining by summer 2019 (i.e. by September) a bachelor's degree or higher qualifications;
(c) being committed to serve the community and with an interest in pursuing a career in the Administrative Service after graduation;
(d) possessing leadership qualities and being able to work in a team;
(e) being active in community / school activities;
(f) with outstanding academic achievements; and
(g) having a good command of both Chinese and English.
   

 

Terms of employment

All local applications (including those from students of local tertiary institutions who are currently participating in exchange programmes at tertiary institutions outside Hong Kong) must be submitted through their respective tertiary institutions.  Applicants are required to approach the responsible department of their tertiary institution direct for details on the application procedures and deadline.

 

Applicants Studying Full-time outside Hong Kong

Hong Kong students studying at tertiary institutions outside of Hong Kong (excluding students of local tertiary institutions who are currently participating in exchange programmes at tertiary institutions outside Hong Kong) who wish to participate in the Programme are required to submit by mail the following information by 26 January 2018 (postmark date will be taken) to the Administrative Service Division of Civil Service Bureau at Room 918, 9/F., West Wing, Central Government Offices, 2 Tim Mei Avenue, Tamar, Hong Kong (late applications and applications submitted by fax or e-mail will not be accepted):
