SCS commends 72 civil servants for meritorious service
The Secretary for the Civil Service (SCS), Miss Denise Yue, presented awards to 72 civil servants today (November 19) for their meritorious achievements. The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, joined them at a cocktail reception to express his appreciation to the award recipients and shared their joy.
Extending her warmest congratulations to the awardees from 32 bureaux and departments at the presentation ceremony, Miss Yue thanked them for their contributions to the Government, their departments and the community.
She said: "A professional, clean and politically neutral civil service is an integral part of effective governance and administration."
"In the policy agenda of the Chief Executive's recent Policy Address, it states that the Government will continue to maintain and enhance morale of the civil service, and encourage fuller use of various commendation schemes to recognise and motivate exemplary performance."
Miss Yue said that the rising civic awareness had increased public demands for accountability. Civil servants had to remain humble at all times and be open to suggestions for improvement to ensure that continuous efforts will be made to enhance the quality of public services to meet the citizens' expectation. In facing the challenge, she is confident that the civil service will spare no effort to provide quality service to the public with excellent efficiency.
The Administration is committed to upholding high standards of performance and conduct in the civil service. To enhance the performance management and commendation systems, the SCS' Commendation Scheme was introduced in early 2004. Through the award, the SCS will, on behalf of the Administration, recognise selected civil servants for consistently outstanding performance. This is the sixth presentation ceremony for the scheme since its introduction.
