Recruitment of Administrative Officers and Executive Officers II in 2009/10 starts today
The Government starts a recruitment exercise today (September 12) to select around 25 and 100 candidates for appointment on civil service terms as Administrative Officer (AO) and Executive Officer II (EOII) respectively in 2009/10.
The application period runs from September 12 to October 5. Recruitment advertisements are placed in the South China Morning Post, Ming Pao and Sing Tao Daily today and again on September 19 and 26. The advertisement can also be found on the Civil Service Bureau's (CSB's) homepage (www.csb.gov.hk) from today.
For the recruitment of AOs, advertisements are also placed in the overseas editions of Ming Pao and Sing Tao Daily today and again on September 26.
The advertisements are also accessible at the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government portal, GovHK, on the Internet (www.gov.hk).
The recruitment is open to all permanent residents of the HKSAR (for the AO post, applicants should have at least seven years of residence in Hong Kong) who possess the requisite academic qualifications or those who are final year undergraduates going to obtain such qualifications within the 2009/10 academic year. Applicants may refer to the advertisements for details of the qualification requirements.
All applicants would need to obtain "Level 2" results in the two language papers (i.e. Use of Chinese and Use of English), or equivalent results, and a pass result in the Aptitude Test in the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE) before they qualify for either of the above two posts. Persons who do not possess the requisite CRE results, or equivalent, but have applied for the coming "Common Recruitment Examination and Basic Law Test" to be held on October 10 and 17 in Hong Kong or on December 12 in Beijing and six overseas cities, namely London, San Francisco, New York, Toronto, Vancouver and Sydney, may also apply. Their applications will be processed subject to their obtaining the requisite CRE results in the aforesaid examination. Applicants are also advised to refer to the advertisements for details regarding the requisite CRE results.
Qualified applicants possessing the requisite CRE results, or equivalent, will be invited to attend the Joint Administrative Officer/Executive Officer Recruitment Examination (JRE) on December 12. Candidates residing or studying outside Hong Kong may take the JRE on the same date in Beijing or any one of the six overseas cities mentioned above. Candidates are required to pass the JRE.
To heighten public awareness of the Basic Law (BL) and promote a culture of learning about the BL in the community, assessment of BL knowledge is included in the recruitment for all civil service jobs. Results of the BL test for degree/professional grades will be one of the considerations to assess the suitability of a candidate but will not affect his/her eligibility to apply for civil service jobs. As a general principle, the main consideration for suitability for appointment remains a candidate's qualification, experience and calibre.
Application forms (CSB 606 and CSB 606A) (Rev. 9/2009) are available at the Public Enquiry Service Centres of District Offices, Home Affairs Department and any Job Centre of the Employment Services Division, Labour Department. They can also be downloaded from the CSB's homepage (www.csb.gov.hk).
Applicants can make online applications directly through the Bureau's website. Each applicant should submit only one application, either by hand, by post or through online application. Duplicate applications will result in delay in processing and applicants may not get sufficient notice of being invited to attend the examination(s).
