SCS commends 76 civil servants for meritorious service
The Secretary for the Civil Service (SCS), Miss Denise Yue, presented awards to 76 civil servants today (November 13) for their meritorious achievements. The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, joined them at a cocktail reception to express his appreciation to the award recipients and shared their joy.
Extending her warmest congratulations to the awardees from 36 bureaux and departments at the presentation ceremony, Miss Yue thanked them for their contributions to the Government, their departments and the community.
She said: "A professional, clean and politically neutral civil service is an integral part of effective governance and administration.
"In his recent Policy Address, the Chief Executive expressed his gratitude to all civil servants for their professionalism and he was proud of their outstanding performance. He said that rising civic awareness had increased public demands for accountability. In face of this challenge, the civil service has been as devoted to duty as ever and spared no effort to meet the needs of the community."
Miss Yue said that civil servants had to remain humble at all times and be open to suggestions for improvement to ensure that continuous efforts will be made to enhance the quality of public services to citizens' needs.
The Administration is committed to upholding high standards of performance and conduct in the civil service. To enhance the performance management and commendation systems, the SCS' Commendation Scheme was introduced in early 2004. Through the award, the SCS will, on behalf of the Administration, recognise selected civil servants for consistently outstanding performance. This is the fifth presentation ceremony for the scheme since its introduction.
