Senior Appointments
The Government announced today (November 8) the following senior appointments:
(a) Mr Eddy Chan Yuk-tak, Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene, will assume the post of Commissioner for Innovation and Technology on November 30, 2007. He will succeed Mr Anthony Wong Sik-kei who will retire after 33 years of service; and
(b) Mr Warner Cheuk Wing-hing, Deputy Secretary for Food and Health (Food), will assume the post of Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene on December 3, 2007.
Commenting on the appointments, the Secretary for the Civil Service, Miss Denise Yue said, "The appointees are seasoned Administrative Officers with rich experience in public administration and proven leadership and management skills. I have every confidence that they will continue to serve the community with professionalism and dedication in their new capacities, and ably lead their offices to meet the challenges ahead."
On the retirement of Mr Wong, Miss Yue said, "Mr Wong has served with drive and commitment in the civil service throughout the years. He has made significant contribution to the development of the telecommunications industry as well as the promotion of innovation and technology, thereby ensuring that Hong Kong stays ahead in the world market as a knowledge-based economy. We sincerely wish him a happy retirement."
Brief biographical notes on the three officers are set out below:
Mr Anthony Wong Sik-kei, JP
Aged 59. Mr Wong joined the Government as an Assistant Telecommunications Engineer in the Post Office in September 1974. He was promoted to Telecommunications Engineer in September 1978, to Senior Telecommunications Engineer in July 1980, to Chief Telecommunications Engineer in June 1984, and to Assistant Postmaster General in July 1988. In March 1994, he was appointed as Senior Assistant Director of Telecommunications in the Office of the Telecommunications Authority. He was promoted to Director-General of Telecommunications in April 1997. He has been Commissioner for Innovation and Technology since August 2003.
Mr Eddy Chan Yuk-tak, JP
Aged 56. Mr Chan joined the Administrative Service in November 1976 and rose to his present rank of Administrative Officer Staff Grade A in April 2007.
Mr Chan has served in various bureaux and departments, including the former New Territories Administration, the former Social Services Branch, the former Urban Services Department, Home Affairs Department, Lands Department, the former City and New Territories Administration, the former Transport Branch and the former Security Branch. Mr Chan was Commissioner for Television and Entertainment Licensing from December 1996 to December 2002 and Deputy Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food (Food and Environmental Hygiene) from December 2002 to July 2006. He has been Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene since July 2006.
Mr Warner Cheuk Wing-hing, JP
Aged 48. Mr Cheuk joined the Government in June 1981 as an Inspector of Police. He transferred to the Administrative Service in August 1984 and rose to his present rank of Administrative Officer Staff Grade B1 in April 2007.
Mr Cheuk has served in various bureaux and departments, including the former Councils and Administration Branch, the former Administrative Services and Information Branch, the former City and New Territories Administration, the Post Office, the former Finance Branch, the former Monetary Affairs Branch, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in London, Department of Health, the former Civil Service Branch, the former Industry Department and Invest Hong Kong. Mr Cheuk was Deputy Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene from June 2001 to December 2003 and Director of General Grades from December 2003 to June 2006. He has been Deputy Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food (Food and Environmental Hygiene) (later renamed Deputy Secretary for Food and Health (Food)) since August 2006.
