2018-19 Recruitment Exercise Timeline

# Applicants are required to have obtained Level 2 in the two language papers (Use of Chinese and Use of English), or equivalent results, and a Pass in the Aptitude Test in the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE) as part of the entry requirements for the EOII post. Besides, result of the Basic Law Test (Degree / Professional Grades) (BLT) will constitute an appropriate weighting in a candidate's overall assessment.

Applicants who wish to apply for the EOII post in the 2018-19 recruitment exercise but do not possess the requisite CRE results, as well as those who wish to sit the BLT, must file a separate application to take the relevant CRE and/or BLT paper(s) during the relevant application period. Applicants for the EOII post will not automatically be given places at the coming CRE and BLT.

 

 

  • Common Recruitment Examination and Basic Law Test (Degree / Professional Grades) (CRE and BLT)

    The application periods of the coming round of CRE and BLT are as follows: -

  • Joint Administrative Officer / Executive Officer / Labour Officer / Trade Officer / Management Services Officer / Transport Officer Recruitment Examination*

    The recruitment examination aims to assess applicants' analytical and written communication abilities. The examination lasts for three hours.

    Candidates should complete two questions in the examination. Mere reproduction of background materials provided in the questions indiscriminately in content and language will not earn any marks. The format of the two questions are depicted in the following:-

    • Question One

      Candidates are required to complete a task in English.
      For illustration purpose, a sample task is shown below.

      Case Background

      The Republic of Southorn is a small country in the Asian Pacific region. It is the Southorn Government's policy to promote technology development and to become the technology hub of the region. Various measures are being planned, including the establishment of a Technology Promotion Fund, the setting up of a New Technology Development Centre, the provision of additional resources for universities to train technologists and to carry out researches, relaxation of immigration criteria for overseas technologists, etc.

      Recently, the US-based AeroTop Incorporation proposed to the Government to develop an "Aero City" for advanced aviation-related components production plants and other related industries. The company claims to possess the world's leading technologies in aeronautics and aviation-related design and production. It undertakes to bring in these state-of-the-art technologies to Southorn exclusively. However, it wants the Southorn Government to provide (a) matching investment, (b) 60 hectares of free land with water frontage, and (c) tax holidays for ten years. In the meantime, Yanlian and Tana, two of Southorn's neighbouring countries, have openly indicated their interest in the same field of development.

      Your Task

      You are the officer responsible for promoting technology investment. Please draft a discussion paper for the Prime Minister's Investment Project Evaluation Group, setting out the pros and cons of the Aero City project, the likely impact that it would bring about to Southorn, the implications of the proponent's requests, and all other relevant considerations. You also need to set out your recommendations with arguments and the actions your government should take.

  • Selection Interview*

    The selection interview for EOII will last for about 30 minutes. Each candidate will be interviewed by a 3-member panel in both Cantonese and English.
