SCS's transcript
Following is the transcript of a media session given by the Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Joseph W P Wong, after officiating at the "A Distinguished Civil Service" documentary series launching ceremony cum exhibition today (January 3):
Reporter: ... ...?
Secretary: I was very sadden by the news of an accident which caused the death of a colleague in AFCD (Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department). The Civil Service Bureau has been in touch with the Department and we will render the family all the necessary assistance to enable them to get over this difficult period.
Reporter: ... civil service appraisal report ... ?
Secretary: We attach a lot of importance to the appraisal system for civil servants. We want to ensure the reports reflect the performance of the officers in an objective and timely manner. I was aware of a report in the newspaper this morning, which in fact carried a comment by the Public Service Commission more than a year ago. So it was not news, it was a case which we have followed up. We have made improvements in this particular case and I can assure you we will continue to attach a lot of importance to improving our system.
