Highlights of events

Civil Service Volunteer Action Introduction To promote volunteerism in the civil service, the Civil Service Bureau launched the Civil Service Volunteer Work Programme in 2002.  The programme aims at encouraging civil servants to form voluntary service teams to help those in need at leisure time.  So far, more than 60 civil service volunteer teams have been set up.  The launch of the Civil Service Volunteer Action in 2007 was a continuation and enhancement of the Civil Service Volunteer Work Programme.  This was to encourage more civil servants to take part in voluntary services and serve the community.  It was one of the events in celebration of the tenth anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The Campaign The Civil Service Volunteer Action was a one-year campaign commenced in April 2007. The target participants were serving members of departmental volunteer teams and civil service colleagues who had yet to join the volunteer teams. NGOs and members of the public were also involved through the organisation of voluntary activities. The Civil Service Bureau worked together with  relevant departments to provide voluntary services under five specific themes, namely protect and conserve our environment, share our work with the community, caring for the community, promote a healthy lifestyle as well as promote arts and cultural activities.  Colleagues of departments also organised voluntary activities under the five themes, so that more people in need could be benefited.      Events of the Civil Service Volunteer Action include: Date Events 28 Apr 2007 Seminar on Voluntary Service co-organised with the Social Welfare Department 12 May 2007 Launching Ceremony cum Tree-planting Day Jun - Oct 2007 Departments organise voluntary activities under the five specific themes: 1. Protect and conserve our environment 2. Share our work with the community 3. Care for the community 4. Promote a healthy lifestyle 5. Promote arts and cultural activities Nov 2007 - Mar 2008 Promotional activities to publicise the voluntary activities of civil servants 31 Jan 2008 Civil Service Volunteer Action Awards Presentation Ceremony   Events co-organised by departments and CSB under the five specific themes include: 1.
