Editor's Notes

Disabled in no way means incapable. We have a number of disabled colleagues in the Executive Grade. Their achievements are not only well-known to Grade members, but also well-recognised by the community. We have talked to Bennet Ha, an achiever, who always lives up to the challenge in life. We have also talked to Mr Gus CHOI, the Commissioner for Rehabilitation, about how human resource practitioners such as EO can enhance the employment opportunities of the disabled. There are also useful data on the disabled population in the civil service, as well as advice on managing the mentally or ex-mentally ill. Hopefully the information will enhance colleagues' understanding about the subject.

The integration of IT into our daily business and the interface between people and machine are major areas of concern for many of our colleagues working in this field. The experience of the Technical Secretariat of the Civil Service Bureau in setting up the Local Area Network (LAN) provides us an insight into the latest trend and the art of mastering this fast developing area. Useful tips and help-lines are featured for those colleagues who wish to have more in-depth knowledge and experience sharing on the subject.

The General Grades Office has organised HRM Seminars entitled "Excellence through Leadership" in December 1997 and February 1998. Those who have missed the event can have a glimpse of the framework in the excerpts.

If you want something easy for the eyes, don't miss the picturesque and fascinating floral arrangements by Janet at "行家小檔案".

One of our colleagues has translated his stimulating reflections on management into "Management Jokes". We are sure that fellow colleagues will have equally scintillating ideas. Do share with us your inspiring observations.

Now and then, we cannot help being nostalgic. Share with us your memories of the good old days in "Somewhere in Time".

We are constantly tapping new talents and ideas, please feel free to contact our editorial board members.

Have a happy and enjoyable reading!
