Customs and Excise Department Volunteer Team

A group of civil service volunteers brought cheers to elderly and single-parent families in Hung Hom by distributing clothing and other items, and providing cleaning services for the elderly.

The Warmest Action 2005 event took place last December. Organisers were the Customs and Excise Department Volunteer Team, the Hong Kong Children and Youth Services and Holy Carpenter Church.

The 70 plus volunteers taking part in the event came from five government departments: Customs and Excise, Fire Services, Highways, Land Registry, and Rating and Valuation.

The Hung Hom event was the third for 2005 under the Crossover Volunteer Programme (CVP). Others during the year were a fun trip to Tsing Ma Bridge organised by the Highways Department volunteers, and an Interdepartmental Fun Day held at the Mongkok Community Hall which was organised by the Land Registry volunteers.

CVP is a self-initiative programme brought together by government department volunteer teams. Objectives include gathering resources from different department volunteer teams and providing diverse services to the community. Altogether 10 departments are involved in the programme.

For others interested in taking part, please contact Roger Wong Yan-lok of the Highways Department Volunteer Team at 2762 3534 or Alice Ho Mei-ling of the Customs and Excise Department Volunteer Team at 9026 8386.
