Announcement of Director of Water Supplies
The Government announced today (January 18) the appointment of Mr Chan Chi-chiu, Deputy Director of Water Supplies, to succeed Mr William Ko Chan-gock as Director of Water Supplies with effect from January 22, 2006. Mr Ko will proceed on pre-retirement leave on the same day.
Commenting on the appointment, the Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Joseph W P Wong, said: "Mr Chan has been working in the Water Supplies Department for over 26 years with extensive experience in different fields of work, proven leadership and good management skills. I am confident that he will be able to lead the Water Supplies Department to meet the challenges ahead and continuously enhance its services to the community."
Mr Wong said: "I would also like to thank Mr Ko for his devoted and meritorious service to the Government over the past 37 years. I wish him a happy retirement."
Brief biographical notes on the two officers are set out below:
Mr William Ko Chan-gock, JP
Mr Ko is aged 59. He joined the Government in September 1968 as an Apprentice Engineer. He was promoted to Chief Engineer in December 1986, to Assistant Director of Water Supplies in October 1990, to Deputy Director of Water Supplies in September 1994 and to Director of Water Supplies in May 2002.
Mr Chan Chi-chiu, JP
Mr Chan is aged 51. He joined the Government in August 1979 as an Assistant Engineer. He was promoted to Chief Engineer in November 1994, to Assistant Director of Water Supplies in July 1999 and to Deputy Director of Water Supplies in May 2004.
