SCS visits Tuen Mun District
The Secretary for the Civil Service, Miss Denise Yue, this afternoon (January 11) visited Tuen Mun District to see for herself the operation of a social enterprise and a riding school.
Accompanied by the District Officer (Tuen Mun), Mr Stephen Chung, Miss Yue first visited a beauty and spa centre. This is a social enterprise run by the Tuen Mun District Women's Association in partnership with a professional beauty training school since June last year.
Miss Yue learnt that the centre, funded by the Government's Enhancing Self-Reliance through District Partnership Programme, provided training and employment opportunities to women of the district.
At the centre, she took the opportunity to chat with some staff who acquired and upgraded their skills after receiving training and practising in the field.
Miss Yue appreciated that the programme, while promoting social integration, was also a remarkable example of poverty alleviation work brought about by cooperation among the community, the business sector and the Government.
Joined by the vice chairman of the Tuen Mun District Council, Mr Leung Kin-man, Miss Yue visited Tuen Mun Public Riding School, the largest public riding facility in Hong Kong. At the riding school, Miss Yue toured the horse stables and inspected a horseshoeing exercise.
After watching participants attending riding programmes at the horse paddock, she was briefed on programmes being planned to promote the Olympic Games equestrian event.
