SCS commends 75 civil servants for meritorious service
The Secretary for the Civil Service (SCS), Miss Denise Yue, presented awards to 75 civil servants today (November 15) for their meritorious achievements. The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, joined them at a cocktail reception to express his appreciation to the award recipients and shared their joy. The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Henry Tang, also attended the cocktail reception to congratulate the award recipients.
Extending her warmest congratulations to the awardees from 38 bureaux and departments at the presentation ceremony, Miss Yue thanked them for their contributions to the Government, their departments and the community.
She said: "A clean, professional and politically neutral civil service is an integral part of effective governance and administration.
"In his recent Policy Address, the Chief Executive has also given due recognition to civil servants' contributions. He said that civil servants, who were required to achieve enhanced productivity in delivering public services on the front line, could still maintain quality services and meet the rising expectations of the public in both quantity and quality. He thanked civil servants for their strenuous efforts. He took pride in them and believed that they were Hong Kong's pride too."
Miss Yue said she was confident that civil servants would continue to give staunch support to the Chief Executive in implementing the beliefs underlying his policies and governance, and to adhere to the "people-based" principle in serving the community of Hong Kong.
The Administration is committed to upholding high standards of performance and conduct in the civil service. To enhance the performance management and commendation systems, the SCS's Commendation Scheme was introduced in early 2004. Through the award, the SCS will, on behalf of the Administration, recognise selected civil servants for consistently outstanding performance. This is the fourth presentation ceremony for the scheme since its introduction.
