Administrative Service Internship Programme 2017

 

 

The Administrative Service forms a cadre of multi-skilled professional administrators who play a key role in the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.  They are involved in policy formulation, resource allocation and implementation of major Government programmes.  Posted around different bureaux and departments at regular intervals, they enjoy variety in their career and contribute to different areas of work in the Government.

The primary objective of the Administrative Service Internship Programme (“the Programme”) is to give Hong Kong students who wish to pursue a career in the Administrative Service an early opportunity to get some hands-on experience of working in the HKSAR Government, so as to facilitate their future career planning.  

 

Duties

Students participating in the Programme will be exposed to duties similar in nature to those of Administrative Officers in assigned posts in Government bureaux or departments. Students may also have chance to visit various Government offices and / or relevant public organisations.

 

Summer Internship Programme 2017

Selection Criteria

Participants in the Programme are required to fulfill the following requirements:

(a) being a permanent resident of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region;
(b) undergoing full-time studies at a local or overseas / Mainland tertiary institution in the 2016-17 and 2017-18 academic years, who is in possession of or with a view to obtaining by summer 2018 (i.e. before September) a bachelor's or higher degree;
(c) committed to serve the community and with an interest in pursuing a career in the Administrative Service after graduation;
(d) possess leadership qualities;
(e) able to work in a team;
(f) actively participate in community / school activities;
(g) with outstanding academic achievements; and
(h) have a good command of both Chinese and English.

 

Terms of employment

The employment period will last for about two months or more between May and August 2017 (depending on office exigencies and individual participants' availability, the actual employment period of different cases may vary).  The level of remuneration for participants will be $9,600 per month (including contribution to Mandatory Provident Fund).  Participants are normally required to work 44 hours per week.  The exact hours of work will depend on the actual operational needs.  Overtime work, where necessary, will be compensated by time-off in lieu.

 

How to apply

Local applicants

All local applications (including those from students of local tertiary institutions who are currently participating in exchange programmes at tertiary institutions outside Hong Kong) must be submitted through their respective tertiary institutions.  Applicants are required to approach the responsible department of their tertiary institution direct for details on the application procedures and deadline.

Applicants Studying Full-time outside Hong Kong

Hong Kong students studying at tertiary institutions outside of Hong Kong (excluding students of local tertiary institutions who are currently participating in exchange programmes at tertiary institutions outside Hong Kong) who wish to participate in the Programme are required to submit by mail the following information by 22 January 2017 (postmark date will be taken) to the Administrative Service Division of Civil Service Bureau at Room 918, 9/F., West Wing, Central Government Offices, 2 Tim Mei Avenue, Tamar, Hong Kong (late applications and applications submitted by fax or e-mail will not be accepted):

(a) a completed application form together with two essays (one in Chinese and one in English) of no more than 300 words each on why they apply for this Programme and what they want to achieve from it; and
(b) two different reference letters from the tertiary institution they are currently enrolled in.

All successful applicants will be offered identical terms of employment. No allowance will be given to appointees currently residing outside Hong Kong to cover their travelling expenses to and from Hong Kong or their subsistence during their stay in Hong Kong.

 

Notification and Enquiries

Winter Internship Programme 2016

Hong Kong students studying at any tertiary instituion in Australia, New Zealand or any other region in the Southern Hemisphere who fulfill the following selection criteria are welcome to apply for the Programme .

 

Selection Criteria

Participants in the Programme are required to fulfill the following requirements:

(a) being a permanent resident of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region;
(b) undergoing full-time studies at a tertiary institution in Australia, New Zealand or any other region in the Southern Hemisphere in the 2016 and 2017 academic years, who is in possession of or with a view to obtaining by winter 2017 (i.e. before December) a bachelor’s or higher degree (excluding students of local tertiary institutions who are currently participating in exchange programmes at a tertiary institution in Australia, New Zealand or any other region in the Southern Hemisphere);
(c) committed to serve the community and with an interest in pursuing a career in the Administrative Service after graduation;
(d) possess leadership qualities;
(e) able to work in a team;
(f) actively participate in community / school activities;
(g) with outstanding academic achievements; and
(h) have a good command of both Chinese and English.
